How did you do?

If you remember, we had a 'Sniff, Taste and Tell' competition on table 11.

We gave you four wines (2 whites and 2 reds) to taste blind.  You had to identify which option was correct out of four possibilities.

So here we go, the correct answers.

Wine 1   Was it.....

  • South African Sauvignon Blanc
  • Australian Semillon Sauvignon
  • South African Chardonnay
  • Chilean Riesling

The correct answer was South African Sauvignon Blanc.  The wine was Obikwa Sauvignon Blanc.

Wine 2   Was it.....

  • French Roussanne
  • French Chardonnay
  • Australian Chardonnay
  • Italian Pinot Grigio

The correct answer was Australian Chardonnay.  The wine was Normans Encounter Bay Chardonnay.

Wine 3   Was it.....

  • Australian Shiraz
  • French Cabernet Sauvignon
  • New Zealand Merlot
  • Chilean Pinot Noir

The correct answer was French Cabernet Sauvignon.  The wine was Castel Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wine 4   Was it.....

  • Spanish Rioja
  • South African Shiraz
  • Australia Grenache
  • French Carignan

The correct answer was South African Shiraz.  The wine was Obikwa Shiraz.

The Draw....

The draw took place one day later than we expected.  Martyn went through every single entry to find the correct answers.  Out of 325 entries, four correct entry forms were found.  Re-entered into a box, Martyn shook the box for about 20 seconds before Angela picked the winner randomly.  We can confirm that the winner of the competition was Chris Haley who bagged himself £50 worth of Oddbins vouchers.

A special mention should go to Gerald Studant, Phil Hawkswell and Michael O'Loughlin, who were pipped to the post by Chris.  You may have not got the prize, but you can be chufffed that out of 325 people, you were one of 4 people who identified all four wines correctly.  Congratulations.

We should add that there were loads of you who identified 3 of the wines correctly, but had problems with wine 3.  Your choice was pretty much split between New Zealand Merlot and Chilean Pinot Noir.  As stated above, the correct wine was French Cabernet Sauvignon.  But hey, three out of four ain't bad.
